Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex
Duplicα RealTime Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex Kit is an in vitro diagnostic test for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (M.tuberculosis, M.africanum, M.bovis and M.microti), by Real-Time PCR.
Overview
Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) continues to significantly impact public health. Approximately 10 million people were infected in 2019 and the pathogen can persist in a hidden form if undiagnosed for a long period of time within the human host. The main infection route for TB has been reported to be through exposure to aerosols from infectious patients.
MTBC includes the typical human-associated pathogens M. tuberculosis and M. africanum; M. canettii and other so- called “smooth TB bacilli”, the actual host range of which remains unknown; and several lineages adapted to different mammal species that include M. bovis, M. microti, M. caprae, M. orygis, and M. pinnipedii. Because of the wider host range of animal-associated MTBC, the common view until a decade ago was that human TB strains had evolved from M. bovis, the typical agent of bovine TB.
Rapid and accurate differentiation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) species from other mycobacterium is essential for appropriate therapeutic management, timely intervention for infection control and initiation of appropriate health care measures.
